We Are Tea's Blog

"The History of Afternoon Tea"

This time, we’re recommending no frills, no dress up. Sue and Graham Tapp do an exceptional Afternoon Tea the Cornish would be proud of. A quant and quiet spot in Baldock, Hertfordshire, the Tapps are baking masterminds, serving up some of the best home-made treats we’ve ever had (seriously, we can’t get our heads round the chocolate orange marble loaf). Oh, and they have pretty good taste in teas too.. come here for an afternoon delight, with a cup of our very own loose leaf tea.

45 of Herts’ best afternoon teas 2015

Since opening two years ago, Tea at Tapps in Baldock has become very popular, thanks to the owner’s attention to detail and quality of ingredients – cakes and scones are homemade from quality ingredients such as free range eggs and butter. There is a choice of 12 loose leaf teas, many of which have won a Great Taste Award. Try the Rosebud Gong Fu – the perfect accompaniment to a delicious cream tea.

The Extra Mile: Delicious Alternatives to Motorway Services

There is always a warm welcome from the resident collies at Tapps, a garden centre house in a former world war 2 aircraft hanger overlooking a patch of allotments and Hertfordshire countryside. Tea at Tapps is to the right a roomy rustic cafe with floor to ceiling windows, decorated with greenery and local artwork.
Teas are loose-leaf, coffee is strong at the atmosphere is relaxed.
Manager Louise is a maestro in the kitchen priding herself on home-cooked food: she conjures up lip-smacking bakes from the oven every day.
Lunches are hardy and filling.
